Anyone know the state of the red at cwmcarn at the moment? The forestry map is showing some work going on - is the trail still in operation?
There were significant diversions on the Twrch Trail when I rode there a few weeks back.
The other side of the valley was unaffected.
The Risca trails looked ok too but i didn't ride any of them that trip.
Still got significant diversions - it’s about 2 miles shorter with a lot of the diversion on forest drives. Cafell was fully open and riding lovely last Saturday. I don’t know about the d/h trails
Is the Twrch worth doing with these diversions (assuming they're still there)? I'm not local so would be driving over a fair way and was planning to do both reds.
Any ideas when the works will be finished?
This was an update on 3rd April;

Twrch trail:
General: The current closures and diversions are all mainly over and back open, with only the Extension loop back to the climb from Pegwn y Bwich still closed, these sections still need a bit more work and will reopen next week.
Cafall: CCBC have reopened the K Jam section after the refurbishment works, again please take extra care until you get used to the refreshed trail features and lines.
Thanks again for your cooperation and patience over the past few months, hope you have a great Easter!”
Apparently all open except the Twrch Extension section. Works on that might finish this week.
OK, I'm heading there on Thursday. Is the extension on Twrch that I think loops you back up (Pegwn y Bwlch) worth doing, or best avoided?
Also, whats the fastest way to get to the top for Y mynydd?
And how do the different starts compare (ace of spaced, evil dead ted, root canal)?.
Thanks!
I accidentally did the extension (it didn't exist the last time I went and I didn't realise it was a thing), seemed a bit 'meh' and puts you back out onto the boring gravel road climb.

rode it when it first opened - unknowingly. Almost did it a second time when I got back to the junction.
that first time was horrific. But it was wet and they may have opened it prematurely - slidey but also slow sticky porridge.
Done it once since in the dry and it flows nicely. Now its bedded in I dont know if wet weather will make it an unenjoyable drag?
Seems a bit odd to have a flow section in the middle of what is a more traditional trail centre red, but I guess the topography dictates the location.
Never ridden the trail centre but as people have said the RISCA trails are superb !
