I'm taking the lad (11) there on Saturday to do a loop it's a fair drive but something different. Is any of it closed, boggy or is it all good right now? Also Twrch or Cafall for a fairly new, albeit fit and confident little rider?

Thanks

Did the Twrch a week or so ago, all open, and riding nicely.

Cafall was running well last weekend despite a reasonable amount of standing water. It's a well cut in & hard packed surface for the most part. Should be drier by this weekend as well.

All of it is roll-able so I'd expect he'd be fine.

Thanks chaps now just to decide on Cafall or the other one, any advice on which one is more involved I know they are both easy enough but which is the more interesting of the two to start with? If he's got the legs we might do both.

My twopeneth, after taking some beginners there a few weeks ago,

The climb on the Twrch is fairly technical and could be frustrating for someone who is not very experienced, it is all doable but there are some steep and rocky ups. That said, once at the top it is a very smooth and flowing route, speed is the only thing that may catch you out.

Cafall is a longer but smoother climb, singletrack switchbacks through the trees ect. For me, the downs are slightly more challenging than Twrch with a few steeper rocky bits. Again, all well within a red grading but it depends what your lad is after.

My advice is do the Twrch but warn him about the climb!

Chris

I'd recommend the Twrch too. You can slack off most of the singletrack climb by riding up the forest road running parallel to the left of the official trail. Ride up about 1km from the tollbooth and take the first junction on your right. Keep an eye out on your left (about 100m from the junction) and rejoin the singletrack.

Rode the Cafael climb yesterday. Bone dry apart from the sweat I left. Tip - don't eat lunch as you're changing before riding unless you want to run the risk of seeing it again.

Also don't turn left onto Pedalhounds or all your hard climbing will be gone in one terrifying brake dragging nightmare.

The lad likes a challenge so I think Cafell sounds like the one to do. Also I know Twrch is quicker on the way down but that isn't ideal when you're riding with someone who has that I'm 11 years old and invincible thing going on, he'll be hitting a tree flat out if I'm not careful.
