I'm looking to upgrade to an oversize stem and flat bars and want something around the 660mm mark to match the width of my current low-risers. I want silver bars which does somewhat limit the choice and I seem either to have to get narrow 600mm bars or very wide ones in the 750-800mm+ range. Buying wide and cutting them down seems the obvious choice but I have no experience of OS bars and I've heard that there can be problems fitting kit as the bars have to widen to reach 31.8mm at the clamping area. Is this widening standardised at a set distance from the clamping area or does it vary between manufacturers? I don't want to find that I've bought bars that I can't cut down sufficiently to leave enought space to fit the levers and shifters.

The bluge will differ from one bar to the next so best to check in the flesh if you can to make sure you'll have enough clamping area left, or find some bars you like aand ask about on here for dimensions I guess.

I've just measured up 2 x OS bars I have. One set is EA70 low risers and the other Kona low risers. Both have about 12cm from the centre of the clamp to where they are down to standard diameter. So basically about 24cm of bar that you couldn't cut. This area also seems to co-incide with the bend in the bars as well.
Not got any flat OS to check I'm afraid
Hope this gives you an idea.

Thanks, I guess I should be able to cut down most wide OS flat bars to around 660(ish)mm but it might be worth check with the suppliers before buying.
