..after reading the long thread re: Hope vs Shim cup & cone I thought I should check/service mine XT circa '05....

....front cones were loose ๐Ÿ˜ฏ could they have turned into the wheel thus crushing the entire race (bearing, as opposed to human...)??

Anyway, after purchasing a 2nd set of cone spanners(Pants LBS advice) the job was very easy to conduct. Packed in loads of grease and now they slip round like a wet dream with zero axle wobble ๐Ÿ™‚

So my point is, erm...don't delay! Check your cones today!

PS: Bit of a crap post, but just in case you're dithering ๐Ÿ˜‰

Mine were done a while ago, they were way overdue though. Loads of metal filings when I cleaned it all out. Also one of the cones is a bit pitted. As such it spins a bit rough now, I just can't be bothered to get the new parts and sort it out tbh :\

I still don't have properly fitting cone wrenches so they come loose every so often. I hate cup & cone hubs, rather have fit and forget with cartridge bearings!
