I am toying with the idea of building up a lightweight Alu 29 hardtail for trail duties. This is not intended to be an all out XC machine, I would like to put an angleset and 120mm forks on. I know there are a few Cube Reaction owners on here, can anyone comment on these or something similar, maybe Trek or Orange offerings? What size of rear tyre can they take? It would need to be a frame only purchase as I have all the other parts.

Trek Superfly here, loved it from the moment I bought it, handled great in singletrack, felt confident in faster more open grassy descents, front end seemed easy to pick up, loved railing pumpy bermy blue stuff at Comrie although took a bit of a kicking on the red which seemed to be one long V-shaped rut with roots and rocks at the bottom...
Not sure you'd want to stick much more than a 2.3" in the back, I'd try to measure for you but it's currently all set up for CX duties, plenty of clearance for a 700x35!
