Hi, I bought a bike frame which had a headset but not a crown race included.
The frame is a Stumpy FSR 29 Comp 2015 with an FSA headset however I have looked for crown races and wandering are all 1.5" races universal or do I need a specific one? If so what?
Greg
Race will be embedded on the fork steerer no?
Previously I've just kept the race and it's always worked out ok.
Crown race would normally come with the frame if it came with the headset.
Second-hand frame mate?
I would "think" most FSA Crown races would fit, if correct size.
It just allows the cartridge to ride on a stable surface after all.
Some more savvy people will be along later no doubt! ๐
Depends, some FSA bearings have a 36 degree bevel on the inner race, Hopes are 45 degrees.
A lot of crown races are interchangeable but there's more than one type and they need to match the lower bearing. Take a look at the lower bearing cartridge, normally it should have the spec marked on it including the chamfer angle, and post it up here (or take it to your LBS).
The bearing says: TH MR1701 1.5 45*45
I guess it 45 degrees then.
And the frame was second hand, annoying that it lacked it and a fork wasn't included.
Also the hope race doesn't look right or is the picture just odd?
Had the same with my Stumpy. Went for the Hope one and it fits like a glove.
^^ That's the one I have, it was a perfect fit. I think it was Tracey who suggested it.
I like the way you've removed the confusion of the race being photographed upside down, whilst adding confusion by (it would appear) putting it on top of the bearing cartridge that it would normally be underneath ๐
Edit: wait, is it on top of a sheet of glass?
The image is lifted off the web, but yes, it looks like a sheet of transparent material.
Ah thanks I will get my self a fancy Hope one!
