I ride 42cm bars on the road.

Worth staying the same or going up a size on a cross bike?

I also use 42cm on road. I built up my cross bike with 44cm bars as I thought the extra leverage would be beneficial, but soon changed them back to 42 as they just felt too wide. Only use the cross for racing though.

my road bike came with 44s so i fitted 44s to my cross bike.

Fair enough. Mine's only for racing, so I'll stick with 42cm.

Cheers

I should be 44/46 but use 42s on all my bikes which gives me a little tuck.

I use 42 on the road. The cross bike came with 44 and I found them too wide. Nothing terrible and I raced a season with them like that but just felt odd swapping to that size. I eventually found a cheap 42 sized bar and all feels good.
Oh yeah, everyone I know in our club that I've discussed this with has the same width. I doubt it would make any difference to your race results, it just didn't feel right.

If I trouble the top half of the field, I'll consider it a racing success. So, yep, all about feel.

Nitto noodle bars soon to be for sale.

I went as wide as possible, but mines a trail cx/monster cross so I'm not worried about gay stuff like overtaking, aerodynamics, results etc. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Oh cynic-al, your protestations make me feel all tingly. Say it again, but with your husky voice this time.
