Just building a cross bike, do you use MTB or Road pedals? Have Shimano Ultegra on road bike and Shimano M647 on MTB, I guess I'd be best with Shimano as I don't really want new shoes.

Given that it's off road and might involve a bit of walking/running, mtb pedals are what you want.

You'll need off road jobbies unless it's just for rough riding and you're not going to be walking.

Candys are popular in CX circles

i thought shimano were the ones for cross, easy and fast to get into and reliable, mud shedding might not be as good as candy or time but never had major problems on mtb or cross

i use xt's. 90% of the time they are spot on, but mud shedding can be a problem on a few of the courses. i keep meaning to try time atacs.

I use XT spds and the only probs that I have had have been due to sand.
Much the same as the age old mud shedding issue.

I use shimano but in icy and relaly muddy conditions I've always found (on the mtb) that they clog up and are hard to clip back in again.

I assume that's why candys and time are popular.

I use/used Candys but was suprised to see the plastic body had worn through and no longer rebuildable.

I use Time pedals - have done since 95/96. Never had a problem (apart from one snowy/icy race where the cleat box on my shoes filled with ice). The cleats last for ages too.

shimano are prone to icy build up too but still prefer them as they seem the easiest to clip into to me
