Just back from ten days in the vendee, surfing, relaxing and riding.

I have discovered a few things......

1. road riding on flat roads is pretty dull... The vendee is pan flat with pretty straight roads. pretty much the antithesis of where i live. Having done a couple of rides there i have discovered i like climbing hills. Yes the surface was nice and yes you could cover a lot of distance but on your own it's actually quite dull.

2. cross bikes are ace..... I took my recently built up bargain Charge Filter with some road tyres and som 32 clement x'plors. it was comfy pounding out the miles on the road. It was quick and ridiculously fun on the sandy single and double track local mountain bike routes. Rendering what was actually a little dull and non technical on my hardtail last year much more entertaining, super fast along the flat and uphill and adding some spice to fairly tame descent sections. Slashed my strava times from last year to (although i think i'm a fair bit fitter now)

I know they are oh so trendy right now but as a one bike solution to an already heavily packed van it was awesome!£400 well spent!

I really miss my Tricross. Used to ride it more than my mountain bike.

Couldn't agree more, very pleased with my all city macho man disc. I run it with kenda happy mediums 700x42 which are great.
