😳 I didn't get sound to building it up...then kind of decided I really wanted discs...and hot gun running...so I'm probably going to sell it on and look for a steel frame with discs.

That's ironic as wanting discs was the reason I upgraded.

Between those two .... hmmm ... tough call which depends on your budget.

1. Croix de Fer if you are running normal gears. (you may swap to gear hub like Alfine 11 but you still need a chain tensioner)

2. Pompetamine - I would go with Alfine 11.

Genesis Day-One Alfine might be your answer.

Very very happy with my croix. Was thinking day one alfine or pompetamine but no regrets going with the standard gears. If you are based near the midland s its well worth giving epic cycles a bell, they are a genesis dealer and specialise I'm road and cx. They did an epic fitting session and I presume they probably do demos too.

Both good choices IMO.

I have had a number of Pompinos and enjoy them, so I'm sure the Pompetamine would be just as good. (My son has a Pompino in Edinburgh if you want a shot).

The Croix de Fer looks tasty too though, and my experience on various Genesis bikes would put it on the short list.

thanks for the advice gents. tyre Croix looks more nicely made and detailed but the pomp better value.

I appear to be thinking a Fargo would be great for semi off road tours, but it could look wrong with 32s on.

I'll prob just keep talking about it for ages but do nothing!

Mmmmm Fargo was on list too. Agreed pompks better value on paper but I wanted this bike to do most stuff and get the most use so decided looks were also a factor. Seeing one in the flesh was the final pull that I had made the right choice! 😀

Id love to get a pompetamine. Cantis can be sphincter tighteningly bad when laden.

I love my CdF (but only once I upped the discs to 180mm).

The pomp is a bargain, I have had both a normal one and now have a disc one. I run it fixed and find that I don't actually use the brakes that much. The chaintug thing in the link would work but makes taking wheels out a pain in the arse as the whole rear mech comes off with it with the ensuing tangling of the chain, blackhound of of here has that setup on his roadrat. I have run gears on my ti29er which has the same dropout but with added mech hanger welded on the frame and taking the wheel out is a struggle as you have to slide the wheel backwards out of the dropout against the tension of the chain/mech.
If you are going to run normal gears I'd go with the genesis, if you are going the ss/alfine route get the pomp as they do ride nicely. 42mm conti fighter2's tyres fit in the pompetamine frame with room to spare.

I run 32mm conti corss tyres and there is loads of room, even with full mudguards fitted.

You're welcome to have a go on it if you are near Burton/Derby area.
The fargos look good, if the singular gryphon had the same amount of rack mounts as the fargo there would be one in my collection.

kaffenback mark 2? replaceable drop-outs so you can run it how you like.
