Creaking has started from the bottom bracket and crankset area, I've ruled out the pedals. There's no obvious play in anything.
How would you determine whether it's crankset/crank arm OR the bottom bracket?
(Shimano Hollowtech set up, BB70 IIRC)

New BB is cheap - throw a new one in.

Chain off the chain Ring and you'll get a better idea of the state of the BB.
What bike?
My neighbour was adamant that his BB was the problem. I ended up replacing his main pivot bearings as the BB was just fine.
