mtb or road? MTB - I'd go with 175mm (slower cadence, more leverage), if it's road I'd go 172.5mm for faster cadence. I'm the same height as you btw.

I wouldn't worry- I've got a set of otherwise identical 170s and a 175s, and another 2 sets that I've never bothered to check, can't tell any difference.

I have 5 bikes in the garage. I've really no idea what length the cranks on each are.

As NW said. You probably won't even notice. I know I don't

Look at it another way its a 3% difference in crank length.

def 170 for your height/inseam.

175 isn't average, it's actually quite long and as such more suitable for taller riders but just so happens to be what length crank manufacturers make more of. Mtbers are all sheep (either that or all the ones online are giants) try and find a set of S/H 170mm XT cranks in the classifieds if you don't believe me. ๐Ÿ˜‰

TBPH I find it weird people can't tell the difference.

i prefer the 170 just feel more like a circular action rather than the 175 which feel more up and down, if that makes sense. 6ft BTW

I'm 6'1" and I've got 170's on 2 of my bikes and I prefer them to the 175's I've got on another. They're all fixies, though.

I'm 5' 10" and use 170 on my MTBs the 175s on my road bike feel too long and will probably be changed ASAP.

170mm is more spinny and less likely to ground out on rocks making you instantly more gnarr with the upgrade (I have senti mental175 cranks on my mtb that I wish were 170). I can tell the difference.

And yes, 5mm matters, as any, err, laydee will confirm.

I never even realised i had 170mm cranks on one bike i had a few years ago till i took them off. But I do have 170mm on my bullit, more for pedal strikes/ground clearance though. (hmmmm, not that i actually 'pedal' it that much. ๐Ÿ˜ณ )

I notice a difference. The two take a bit of getting used to. I used to prefer 175 but having ridden 170 for a bit of time I now prefer them.

I've got 170mm on my geared HT, 175mm on my geared FS and can definitely tell the difference, the HT is just spinnier when riding along.

My road bike has 172.5mm, my previous road bike had that too and they just feel right.

BTW I'm 5' 10.5" with a 32.5" inside leg
