Having just spent a tiring and frustrating time trying to fit a new Hans Dampf tyre I've started looking at a better solution. I got it on in the end without using levers but my hands are as sore as hell. I've never had any real problems fitting tyres before and I think I'm aware of many of the recommended methods.

I saw these Crank Bros Speedier Levers recommended and a video on them. They look like they might be useful, any thoughts and experience?

Did you see this timely review:

https://road.cc/content/review/crankbrothers-speedier-tyre-lever-273873

As an alternative, I got one of these the other days but haven't tried it yet:

Guessing you've seen the old favourite the VAR lever?

Sorry, you probably didn't want more options and no experience.....

Speedier Lever is so / so. 7/10 is about right in my experience.

It lacks substance when real purchase is required, but once over the worst of getting a tyre onto / off the rim, it's very good.

I preferred the original Speed Lever, the one that telescoped up from the axle. That had a bit more purchase. But they became brittle over time and in the cold. Still have a couple though, and still bring them into service for stubborn stuff.

Thanks for the feedback.I might give the Crank bros ones a try. They won't break the bank.

I was also looking at the Bbb ones

Again, they might be worth a try.

Having just spent a tiring and frustrating time trying to fit a new Hans Dampf tyre

Which rim, may I ask? And which version of the Hans?

I had one Hans Dampf that came up VERY tight.

I may get one of these, looks like it's be quite - ahem - satisfying to use.

The Hans Dampf are: 27.5, 2.35, Addix Soft Supergravity, Snakeskin

The rims:WTB ST i29 TCS 2.0 32H

I couldn't work out that tool you mentioned.

@plus one

Those Park Tools levers seemed to be recommended for getting tyres off, are they good for getting them on.... that was my problem.

I have the older Crank Bros lever and it is very good. Great at getting tyres off, makes putting them back on much easier. Good when you have cold, wet hands and your thumbs aren't fully working, but equally good when you just want an easy life. I haven't actually used it for a while, though. Partly it only works well with QR wheels (clips onto the axle) but more that I haven't come accross a super tight tyre in ages. Might just be my tyre choice, but maybe rim and tyre sizes are getting better. I'm sure a lot used to be super tight.

The Hans Dampf are: 27.5, 2.35, Addix Soft Supergravity, Snakeskin

My super-tight Hans was the same but 29in, and on a Stans Flow EX3 rim.

They have shallow rim beds so there's not much space for the bead to go into, it was literally jammed in the centre of the rim, too tight to move to the edge (which was cambered upwards).
