So yesterday I make the not insignificant 80 mile drive to Llandegla. I'm happily making my way round with a bit of anticipation of the fast approaching B line. As I pedal up the small incline just before it 'CRUNCH'......that didn't sound good. Then I realise my legs are spinning but I'm not moving. I instantly knew it was a freehub issue. After finally getting back to the car and driving home I took the freehub off and discovered that the Pawls were completely obliterated. 700 quid wheels, 5 months light/medium use, and yeah these are the 2012 redesigned wheels.
That is harsh ,bad luck.
They are still my favourite ,I love the look ,but will never buy set of wheels.
Still under warranty ?
With regards warranty - I bought them in the USA in October so warranty might me tricky. Tim at Crank Bros has ageed to send me some new pawls which I'm glad about.
The first time out on mine I picked up a small log in the wheel which brought me to an abrupt halt, to face plant via two broken thumbs which are now useless. After I healed I took them to the Alps and they lasted 30 mins in the PPDS before spokes started snapping, rendering the wheel useless due the wheel only having about 10 spokes. The spokes seemed to snap under braking. Parts took months to come in and then the next time out the replaced free wheel went. Sent the whole lot back for an over haul and sold them upon there return. Never again will a CB part touch my bikes. Traded up to Chris Kings on mavic rims and very happy.
CB know there is a problem with free wheel, though they say they have fixed it. Suggest you order some spare spokes as you'll probably need them and parts are not easily available. Super stiff and fast though.
Crank brothers in design failure shocker
Apparently they source their parts from Cadburys.
Harsh but true.
Thats a pity bloody loverly looking wheels
Was hopping they had improved ah well
Looks like im waiting for the mk4
