Love these pedals, but the damn bearings do not last as you all know!

Anyone know what spec bearings they are, as I fancy buying a job lot of them from a supplier.

Mine are the SL, from about 2007 I think.

Cheers, Dave.

Buy the rebuild kit - they are in there with the bushes.

From experience the bearing goes when the bush is left dry and that wears. That causes axial play and then splits the bearing.

Best do the bush and keep that lubed.

(used to work in warranty at 2pure)

you'd need to change the nylon bushings at the same time though wouldn't you?

for awhile it's been almost as cheap to get new pedals from CRC than a bearign kit and a new pair of cleats...

Yeah I've had the rebuild kits, but tbh it's only the outer cartridge bearing which really needs replacing - suspect these are only a couple of quid when bought direct.

Just need to know what spec they are.

So, why d'you "love" them, then?

When I got my Egg Beaters early last year I pumped them full of grease, hoping that would delay their inevitable demise.

I didn't use them through winter admittedly, but have used them in some really really crap events in the spring. I took them apart for the first time a couple of weeks ago and they were spotless inside, I was stunned! Pumped them full of grease again (and I mean full of grease!) and hopefully they'll last the summer without trouble. They're just cheap C's with ti axles from eBay.

IIRC there are two types, a very early version and a latter version. Your's would be the latter. Probably wise to use a kit though.

I love 'em, Mr Woppit, for every reason other than the short life of the bearings.

Four enty points, mud clearance, and just their look!

Maybe I'll go for a rebuild kit - I'm already bored of searching the interweb after 5 mins!

They're light too, which is the sole reason I tried them!

Hmmm. Takes all sorts. Used to use them - bearings went soon enough, also I found them really uncomfortable. Soles of the feet hurt after downhills of any appreciable length - like having pressure applied to one spot on each foot for the purposes of torture..

Big S DX's now. Two entry points perfectly adequate, mud clearance good. Looks like a pair of actual pedals, not - er - egg beaters...

To each their own . 8)

Agree. I've steered clear of CB pedals previously because of the reputation. Now, looking at the Candy 1 it's only ~30g heavier than the top ti model and can be retrofitted with ti axles and needle bearings for about 1/4 of the price. Bargain?

That's what I did with my Egg Beaters, made sense to me, £50 pedals that weigh less than 200g! I've been surprised by their longevity too.
