I ride 175 cranks on my road and TT bike which work much better than 172.5's for me (long, lanky legs). My cyclo cross and XC MTB bike cranks are 172.5's. I have a feeling that if I put 175's on these also, I'll be able to go faster and further, and beat those who are just ahead of me in races at the moment.
Before I splash the cash, is there any reason I should or should not do this?

If you believe it will work then do it.

I don't believe it makes any difference so I don't bother and that works for me.
