Anyone use them? Are they actually effective?

Riding out in the Pyrenees both mine and Katie's cranks have taken a beating on the ends. Hers are Race Face Next Carbon, mine Shimano XT but both have chunks out of them.

Do rubber/silicon boots for the end actually stop this or do they just tear the first time you smack them into a rock?

RaceFace of Zefal ones are about £8 but there are silicon ones on eBay for less than £2 delivered.

I use the raceface ones, they're a firm.olastic rather than rubber and seem to me a good idea.

I use the RaceFace ones on my Swoop, and I used them previously on my Stumpjumper.

They do fit on other makes of crank but I found the distance from the end to the hole centre is different so they need a little bit of pulling into place.

Already shown their worth when I went out with my shock under pressured at BPW last weekend...
