I've got a crack in my windscreen (company van) that's growing daily and now most of the way across the screen. Autoglass say it's nearly a two week wait to get it fixed as they are over run at the moment. It's not quite in my line of sight (it's all the way along the bottom of the screen). two questions:
is it likely to catastrophically fail while driving?
If I get stopped am I going to get done?
STW wisdom appreciated!
2 weeks?
i called them on tuesday and had one replace later that night (in brighton)
im sure you could ask to take it to them and they can do it there.
It would be an MOT fail, but as for getting stopped, maybe, depends on what mood a copper is in as you pass them.
BTW one of our cars has a stonechip, they had to re-arrange a booked appointment due to being excessively busy. So the fact that they're saying they're busy might be true.
afaik your car/van/whatever needs to be able to pass an MOT at any time when it is on the road even though it only has to have a formal test once a year
so, as missingfrontallobe says, would depend on the copper (how many people drive around with a lightbulb out etc etc?)
if it's cracked half way across the screen, I'd be worried, personally. If your local Autoglass can't help you in good time, then I'd check with the next one down the road / another firm
You are aware that autoglass don't have a monopoly on windscreen repair?

Yes aware of that - just that we have an account with them, and work are paying.
If you get pulled by plod, it will be you that gets done, not your company.
Get it sorted now, or get a hire van until it can be.
cheers all - on the case now.
