Cracked the lacquer...
 

[Closed] Cracked the lacquer on carbon bars - replace?

Had a tumble today in the snow, bars dug in a bit and rotated a bit in the stem. Got everything straightened back up and noticed the lacquer near the clamp has cracked and a bit had peeled away.

Not likely to be structural damage, or not worth the risk?

Bother. Took the bars fully out and they are fubar - huge divots on the back side of the clamping area.

Time to go shopping :-/

hmmm just ordered som carbon bars

would this have happened with alloy??

only if your stem bar bolts were not tight enough like the OP

dirtyrider - yes and no. Yes, they might not have moved if they had been tighter, but they were done up to torque. Crashing exceeded that.
