Hi lads,
Whats your thoughts on a Ov Stiffee and Revelation forks? Looking so an all day epic bike thats light with a min of 120mm up front
Martin (Dublin)
I had one with recons a few years back, it will beat you up a bit over consistently bumpy stuff but still a great bike. I much prefer my steel hardtail now though.
thanks...... what hardtail you got?
Do it! Fun fun fun!
"All day epic bike" and Stiffee don't really belong in the same sentance - clue's in the name! 2hr riot most definately, but I wouldn't want to be out on one all day!!
go for it, they fly higher and further when they're lighter, used to run mine with vanilla 125rlc and crossmax, very fast build, now it has pikes, single ring and hefty wheels/tyres for ploughing through rocks and charging around on
it would be fine for a day in the hills along relatively smooth trails, but if your talking big/rough descents in there somewhere, you might feel a bit more knackered on a stiffee.
Speant many days on my Stiffee's. The only time I felt 'beaten up' was using it in the Alps. Certainly there are more compliant bikes out there - Cove Handjob for one.
any better options then?
There's nowt wrong with what you initially suggested.
I have been running my cove Stiffee since 2001 and I never feel beaten up by it, this may have something to do with the amount of seatpost I run ๐
Its a 21" frame but i'm 6"4. I would reccomend a seat post with a bit of flex and 400mm long, I can see it flex as i ride along but is fine for long days out (6 hours no problem)

I've got some Crosmax xl wheels and coil revelation forks. Feels perfect for all day rides at 110mm fork travel, wound out to 130mm for the odd drop/ jump wound down to 85mm for mega steep climbs, but mostly run at 110mm ๐

excellent! 110 - 130 seems to be the travel that is best for the stiffee
nice, pike looks nice up front! all day spin bike?
I've had one for about 4 years now, and used it for all sorts of riding from uplift days to 24 hour races. I've never had a problem with comfort, but they're quite short and upright and as the name suggests there is no flex in the frame at all. The amount of "compliance" in a frame is a moot point when you can fit a 2.5" tyre in the back (although a fast-rolling 2.3" is more sensible).
I think in terms of strength to weight trade-off they are one of the best frames you can get - I've heard of one single frame breaking after they introduced the new RAD tubing, and that was at the dropouts, which were redesigned a couple of years back. If you want a lighter bike, check out the Kinesis Maxlight 120.
