[Closed] Cove Handjob dropper seatpost/Cove v Soul experiences....

[#3741981]

Greetings esteemed STW forumites....I'm wavering between a cove handjob and a cotic soul upgrade of my rockhopper frame. One of the conundrums is dropper post options for the unusual 30mm seatpost size of the HJ, and I was interested to poll those HJ owners who have gone down the dropper route on their recommended solutions.....GD with shim as the obvious one but anything else??

Hoping to swing a leg over both HJ & Soul to try in the not too distant future, but would be very interested to hear opinions from those who have owned/ridden both options as well.

Thanks!

I run an x-fusion hilo with a shim on my Hustler (also a 30mm seatpost), and have had no problems at all with it. These were a decent price too when I bought it 12 months ago, not sure about now...

Got a Cove Stiffee with 30mm and run a KSi7 + shim.

I'd rather it was .9 bigger so I could run a reverb!

I stand corrected (thanks teetosugars and qwerty).....HJ is 27.2mm, Stiffee, Hustler, Gspot are 30mm..... 😳 No need for shim then! Makes it the same seat post for both HJ and soul, just sadly not my current reverb!

....but are quite a bit heavier and burlier in role to Soul & HJ.....I've only got a 120mm fork and happy with that for my style of riding....hence the frame selections...

GD Classic works great on my Soul.

BFe isn't that much heavier than a HJ really. About the same difference as between the Soul and the HJ. Works fine with your current seatpost, and it's cheaper - bish - bosh - easy. BFe doesn't 'need' a big fork either: same geom as the Soul with the same fork.

Those 853 Prince Alberts look too good to turn down.

Or this, if a large suits:

Huh, I was about to correct kelvin about weights as the HJ is pretty light (or so I always thought...), but on checking weights it seems the Soul is lighter than the HJ!

Update......2nd hand soul acquired (cheers skiprat!).....frame dilemma sorted at least :D....now for the seatpost. Like the look of the x-fusion hilo as cheaper alternative to the GD but seeing lots of reports of slow return of last inch. Is it really a problem actual owners of one??
