conventional or top swing?
top pull obviously and IME the stop on the seat tube appears angled to the driveside, so im thinking that works better with a conventional swing mech.
what have you got?
Not sure what the tech term is but mine pulls upwards on the driveside, so yes, the cable stop points slightly in the wrong direction for it. Doesn't make any difference that I can feel though, shifts just fine.
Conventional top swing ๐
One of these, http://www.merlincycles.com/bike-shop/mtb-parts/transmission-gears/derailleurs-front-mtb/shimano-xt-m771-9-speed-front-mech-conventional.html but 10 speed, was on the soda. Worked no problems.
Bit of a tight fit on the Solaris though, but that is another story...
I go take a pic, it's XT something.

Actually I just went to check and it's the other way round, it pulls up on the NDS. Still opposite to where the cable stop points though, so my comment still stands, the angle is small enough that it doesn't seem to make any difference... ๐
The mech is SLX, "Top Swing 9sp M665" it says here.
thanks all,
so a top swing works fine even if slightly against the angle of the cable stop.
if i use a conventional swing, looks like the band will sit between the bottle cage bolts - can you fit a bottle cage over the top of the mech band?

yes, you might find the odd stupidly designed one that won't but as the normal for years was to have the front mech mounted between bosses...
lovely,
cheers for the pic bigrich.
agree conventional last longer and collect less crap than top swing.
