I just bought a 2005 model Soul and am going to get some new forks for it. Looking at Reba and was wondering if it can take 120mm? I know the newer ones can take more than that but pretty sure the older frames were limited to either 100mm or 120mm.

Thanks

Nah, it's always been fine for 130.

I have a Mk 1 Soul and run it with Magura Menja 130, which is perfect for me.

I've just dug out an email from Cy where he recommended a Marzocchi 100 fork over a RS 100 fork for a Mk1 because "they're longer for the travel".

I'm just about to take said frame to the powdercoaters, and spent a few pleasant minutes chatting to Paul at Cotic yesterday, while ordering stickers, as he too rides a Mk1, and they use that in the design tests as a benchmark for any "improvements". He's always happy to go back to that one, as am I.

Cy also used to say on the Cotic website that he advised against the Marzocchi Z1 FR on the grounds that the a/c measurement was too long for the travel. In fact, he used to advise against bolt-through forks in general.

I was asking specifically about a 100mm fork. And if I recall, the issue with longer forks and watrranties has been about the too stiff long forks being able to overload the frame, not about the geometry.

The geometry was a factor, as in "long for the travel", but it's also a bit crap when you're relying on an assumed level of flex in someone else's component to take some of the loading off yours.
