Looking to put either of the above on my Roadrat.
I'm assuming mini V's work with std STI/Drop levers?
Having mainly only ever ridden Hyd Discs on my MTB and very recently road calipers on my road bike, I'm far off being a brake expert. ๐ณ
How do mini V's compare to road calipers?
and what advantage/disadvantage to each have

Not sure calipers will work that well with the sliding dropout/trackend (was the Roadrat ever designed to run with them?) I'm guessing you would need long drop calipers at the least.
Mini-v's will work much like an old Cantilever brake but without the dodgy straddle cable affair to faff with. They would therefore work with standard road levers just not be quite as powerful as a standard V brake equivalent.
I have run normal V brakes and Avid cable discs on mine and currently there is a Juicy on the back to allow fitment of a rack that the BB7 cable caliper fouled but i'm running fleegle bars at the mo'.
I have some Diacompe 287V levers that would work with the MTB version Avid BB7/BB5's and drop bars (not fitted as yet as I'm retaining gears for now) but Shimano and Avid both do road versions of the disc calipers that would work with standard STI levers. That assumes you have disc hubs of course.
V brakes were fine, though mud pluggin was a pain, BB7's are fine and the Juicy is overkill on a 26c slick. Dual pivot road calipers feel pretty much up there with power of a normal V brake. I'd say the Mini V's going to be the least powerful option.
Just remembered that the mini V noodle/cable may possibly foul any full length mud guard you want to fit. No idea if that is a consideration for you but it sounds like mostly a road commuter use bike from your brake choices.
Wasn't thinking of mudguards at the moment, but it's probably worth noting. Already have tried some V brakes on it and I am currently running some MTB discs with flat bar levers
It's just that moving to rim brakes allows me to swap between 2 different wheel sets (one with CX tyres and the other with Road slicks).
I fancy drop bars so, I could leave it as it is and use a Tektro RL520 drop bar lever and current std V Brakes, but this will stop me moving to STI levers and therefore running gears unless I get some bar end shifters which I don't fancy TBH.
mini v's need setting up with the pads very close to the rim to get a decent amount of stopping power, removing the wheels then becomes a bit more trouble if you run fat tyres
