@faz083, how can you compare the price of a new Soul with a used Gensis off eBay? If you think a Soul is too expensive buy a BFe.

because the one I bought was pretty much new? Ok so a little ambitious, but you still aren't going to find a soul frame for £200 when it's been ridden a handful of times.
Also purchasing a BFe instead of a soul would be stupid - they're completely different frames, designed for different things! I'm not just going to buy a cotic so I can own a cotic, I would actually want to ride it.

Really liking the white wheels buddy !!!

Thanks. I was a bit dubious about keeping the white wheels on it at first but it's turned out well.

I'm liking his simple but effective bike stand <wanders off to shed>

I'd like to take the credit for the idea but it's blatantly nicked off someone
else, possibly on here, who posted a picture of their bike with a similar stand.

Just got the Soul out the shed and took it for a ride, f/s may be spending the rest of the summer in the shed now.

This is the second soul that I've owned after an enjoyable spell on full suspension but it's more fun on a hard tail around here.

It's a frame I bought from gumtree for £50 and restored to it's former glory. Have just changed the setup to 1x9 but otherwise it's as in the picture. Great bike for doing all sorts on.

First edition soul, sometime 2006. Chainstay snapped. Loved that bike.

[IMG] [/IMG]

Roadrat, 2009-2011. Downtube snapped. Did around 10,000 miles on it. Didn't love it. Flexiest bike I've ever owned.

Captured in action for once:

[IMG] [/IMG]

[IMG] [/IMG]
* why cotic ??
I like the engineering approach and felt that of all the vaguely similar British designed XC/AM hardtails it would be the best optimised. It's also rather aesthetically pleasing, especially in orange.
* why that model
I wanted a bike that wouldn't be a chore on quicker XC rides (and the odd race) but would be better suited than my Boardman HT for ragging downhill and getting progressively bigger air.
* set up
Medium Mk2 Soul, Fox Float 140RL 15QR, Renthal 50mm stem, Haven Carbon 711mm, SRAM X9 1x10, Hope Pro2 Evo with Flow rims, Hope BB and headset, Hope Race Evo M4 183/160, Rubber Queen 2.2, X-King 2.4, Gravity Dropper,
* opinions !!
Can't fault it!

[IMG] [/IMG]

P.S. Thanks to Jedi for the photos and skills upgrade!

chiefgrooveguru, what chain device are you using?

Bashring on the outside, N-Gear Jump Stop on the inside. Not lost a chain yet... However I hardly ever used to backpedal but I've just learnt the value of back-pedalling to get the trailing pedal down when braking before a corner. If it starts dropping the chain I'll look at a full upper and lower guide but I'm hoping I won't need it.

Here's Poopy and Snotty for you:

[img] [/img]

Poopy is a mk1 Simple that a bought second hand cos by the time I got round to phoning cotic to buy one they had sold out of my size, grr.
Since then it's been built up various ways to try out different setups but it's happiest with the rigid P2 or a <100mm fork in my opinion.
Feels like a mix of my old Bontrager and a 90's Kona!

Snotty is a mkX prototype Soul frame that I got direct from Cotic a few weeks ago. Its a mix of the current and previous Souls, 34.9 Seat tube, standard 1 1/8th headtube, and a slightly lighter weight front triangle than made it to the production model apparently, and best of all and EBB so it can run SS without much bother.

Have only taken it round the block so far but will give it a proper thrashing soon 🙂

Mk.2 Large frame

Love the brand and think Cy has created a great bike that is lovely to ride. Built this one from nearly all 2nd hand used parts, although have recently upgraded the wheels to ZTR Flows. 2x10 and 140mm fork works fine for me.

*Quite fancied a no-fuss hardtail for the winter months, so picked up a BFe. It was a great bike, but a little too much for our local trails, so I replaced it with a Soul.

*SLX Drivetrain with XT shifters and brakes. Reba forks set to 120mm and an XT/Mavic wheelset.

*Great bikes both!

I rode the Soul for the first time today. A much more 'lively' ride than the BFe and a bit more fun on the local trails. I'm hooked!

* Great brand
* Fun easy to maintain HT
* 1x9, 150mm Revs, Stinger and N-Gear jumpstop.
* Great so far - lighter than I was anticipating and easy to throw around 🙂

I enjoy and appreciate supporting a UK brand, I wanted a light steel frame with track ends and geometry suitable for a rigid fok.

Mono Mini's, 160mm floating rotors, Pro 2 hubs (NRB SS on the back), Crest rims, Schwalbe tyres (TL), Middleburn Cranks, UN74, griplock CK headset, point one stem/ integrated top cap (70mm), Syntace carbon flat bars with a bit of back sweep, Thomson seatpost, Selle SLR. Now running 455mm eBay carbon forks, previously had the ti Pace RC31's, I think the RC31's looked nicer on the frame (especially don't like the frame/ fork interface on this one), however with the limited riding I've done I think I prefer these.

Lovely, beautiful bike. Makes me ride like a hooligan whenever I get on it. Might be tempted to the the 29er version in the future if it gains a tapered headtube (not a fan of how the 44mm tube looks on a steel frame) and some more interesting colours!

Thread steal....what size Bfe for a 5' 10 rider, bike to be flickable..small frame with 50mm stem, large with 35mm stem? How easy is the Bfe to manual? ( I'm considering a Bfe or NS Surge )

Since this thread last bumped, I've Cotic'd again twice 😳 Hemlock and me are still bestest buddies, but I picked up a very cheap, cracked '07 Soda from the classifieds here, got Enigma to weld it up again, and built it back up with the bits from my rigid Carrera:

On its maiden ride:

IMG_1516 by Northwindlowlander, on Flickr

Still playing with parts for it, once the new forks arrive I might just call it Finished.

Oh and a poo-brown Roadrat but so far it's been a pain in the arris, took ages to build and every time I ride it something falls off or breaks so it's in the doghouse 😆 I don't think it's going to be my favourite Cotic.

Why, because the geometry was what I wanted, and it didn't weigh any more than my alloy hardtail. Wanted to see if the 'steel feel' guff was actually valid or not (it is, where this is concerned).
Built it up as a single speed initially, but it's now 2 x 10 XT, with some 07 Talas 140's and Hope X2 brakes. Love it. Might just have to invest in a later frame at some point though, to add a reverb into the equation. Oh, and it's actually white!

A few changes (for the (even) better) since my BFe last appeared in this thread. Now got some XT brakes, a Reverb, and a Spoon. Still an astonishingly versatile and fun bike.

I'm 5'9"& went for small Bfe with 160mm u-turn forks. With a 40mm stem its tight (have caught the bars with knees when climbing out of saddle). But it means if feels very maneuverable. Built to be a fun freeride bike & it is. If I get sick of the tight cockpit I'll stick a longer stem on.
