Hi all,
Firstly this is my first post so hi.. Great to see so many bike enthusiasts in one place.
Secondly, i'm looking to get a 140mmish bike/frame and I've seen a nice corsair marque on ebay (please don't go and buy it ๐ ) and although the bike has few reviews they mostly have good things to say, does anyone have one or had one in the past for a first hand review?
Thanks for reading and look forward to reading all the other choices that you guys will suggest ๐ haha
Corsair didn't last long as a company, IIRC. Made some nice bikes, and some unusual bikes, but died out fast. Difficult to find spares if something goes wrong, which would steer me away from it.
Also - the frame is nearly 9lbs. 8lbs is on the heavy side for a 160mm frame, never mind one with just 130mm.
And there seem to be some issues with it:
"My rear triangle was so far out of alignment the rear Maxle wouldn't screw in at all. Also all the pivots constantly loosened up every ride. After a few emails Corsair finally sent some different set screws, but they were way too large to work. I also discovered the linkage was hitting the rear triangle preventing me from getting full travel. Here's a pic. The linkage was similarly gouged. The contact occurred even when the pivots were tight."

My mate had one, had problems with the idler which disintegrated a few times and it weighed a ton.
I've got one... but it's not been ridden yet so it's sitting built up in my shed waiting for the Alps.
My understanding is that as long as its got the new idler you're ok. But don't quote me on that.
It is heavy, mainly because there's alot of metal but it seems very sturdy. Other than that I can't tell you anything I'm afraid.
Corsair are still going. Pretty sure they signed Jamie Goldman this year
I see, I heard things about the idler yes, but like Sawyer says the "mkII" idler is fine I think. Weight wise, I think it's usually around 30lbs, which is normal no?
Might just play it save with a reign..
I love the look of the corsair marque I really fancy one but worrys like the above have stopped me.
I looked at them when they first came out, really wanted one, but there were just too many negative comments from 1st time buyers on the forums. As well as the idler problem, people seemed to be having to botch stuff to make the chain run quietly in the seat stay housing thing. I also think you would have to throw money at it to get it below 32lbs.
However, might be worth a punt at that price, but too heavy for what I'd be looking at these days.
I had the corsair maelstrom and it was a great bike, suspension system was well thought out, and it rode great too. Main issues where the propitiatory headset, idler pulley was very noisy and shock was very difficult to remove and adjust. IMO if they had been around longer they could of resolved these problems and made some amazing bikes..
Thanks for all the heads up guys, I think i'll leave it, I don't like the idea of buying it and being left in the lurch when something goes wrong, in addition the ebayer isn't very helpful with description and doesn't write/answer text messages "properly". Put me off with one word answers...
