as title says,i have my brothers 1990 diamondback avent and was wondering what it would take to put a set of suspension forks on it for my son to use,its the old style stem and bars......
many thanks craig...
It'll mess up the geometry and add quite a bit of weight. I wouldn't bother.
you could try a set of old style sids at 63 or 80mm travel.
not too heavy, air spring to cope with lighter weight of boy?
measure the axle to crown on the existing fork and new fork if there's more than about 20mm difference it will affect handling.
Might have a 1" steer and canti brakes too?
As long as you don't go for massive travel it should be fine. As above it will change the handling but older frames tend to have quite steep head angles so it might make it better. You'll need a new headset and stem as well. Just check it is 1 1/8" before you start; You can get 1" suspension forks but they will be expensive or rubbish.
thanks for the feedback guys, might just leave it as it is,prob to much, time money and effort.
might just try and sell the thing the way it is,
