Got them front and rear on my Zealous - don't find them slow.

Sillyoldman - great to hear that you've tried it! I've got one in 26" on the front and I'm looking at the possibility of doubling up. Have you found any drawbacks at all?

I'd be interested in a comparison with the older ones that I currently use F&R in the winter.

Not tried the old ones as they didn't come in 29"

No drawbacks in our gloopy Scottish conditions we've been "enjoying" since November.... I'm sure others would roll faster, but little point if you've no traction.

same reason I have the older 2.3 versions but they are a bit on the small side volume wise

The 26 baron was my favourite tyre. I've now gone 27.5 but I'm put off by the 1 kg weight of the new one. I suppose that's what happens when you design a tyre for Dan Atherton!

The Apex carcass is worth the weight. Not sure about the quoted weights - don't remember it feeling like a kilo, but I know the published weights say so.
