I need a new back tyre for very little money so my options are the conti mountain king so it matches the front wheel (purely asthetic choice) or panaracer xc pro wired as i seem to remember years ago these being a decent tyre. Should i consider anything else in this very budget £15 category

On-One Smorgasbord, £15.99. Highly regarded budget rear tyre.

not a xc fire - things have moved on.
On-one have lots of sub £15 tyres - own brand and geax. Eg a TNT Saguaro is £10.

Never heard of geax and not much in the way of reviews, are they any good?

Yeah, geax are good. Saguaro is a decent rear imo. Fast and grippy. TNT is the extra tough tubeless casing. The standard casing goes tubeless fine too. The 2.2 is a proper 2.2.

Geax is Vittoria and the new mtb tyres are branded Vittoria, so the old Geax ones are selling cheaply now.

Thanks Yak, i was wondering why the tyres were so cheap and heavily discounted, i thought it might be a too good to be true scenario.

Used to run Conti Mountain Kings but found the compound too soft and they wore out after half a season. IRD are making a 32mm cross version of the XC Fire, that would suggest they are still good tyres.
