[Closed] conti cross speed 35 - need more grip !

First decent off road ride on Croix de fer today and I need more grip. I have some 32c small block 8's I could put on but prefer a bit more volume.

Not for racing, but really an all round fast roller but more grip on rocks than these. ( the conti's are ok as standard tyres and good and fast on easy stuff)

So any reccomendations for a hard wearing fastish grippy 35c cross tyre

Is a more knobbly tyre going to grip better on rock?

๐Ÿ™„ - help if you read the question fully - so no those won't be good on rock!

Thanks so far. Not slick rock, more for trails rockier than fireroad ๐Ÿ™‚

Sammy slicks 35mm at 70psi seem to grip fairly well. They have a bit more block round the edge than the contis but still roll really well.

Try Tufo tubular clinchers.

The speedkings are semi slicks so have virtually no grip on damp surfaces. You can ride them but not like a mtb.

For all round use try the Vittoria XG or XM or the Grifo Pro

But remember you are not on a mtb and it will behave differently. In racing people use low pressures. I can get as low as 20 on clinchers if it is just muddy with no chance of pinch flats. For general riding I use 50+ as there are rocks and roots. Trade off is loss of grip.

Iain - those were Vittoria XG Pros I had today, they're OK but they aren't very hard wearing, more a race tyre. I wouldn't think about Vittoria XM Pros they are quite aggressive for racing in mud so won't last. There aren't so many 35C, most of the decent tyres seem to go up to 33C as this is the max width for UCI competitions.

Few ideas for all rounders

Schwalbe Smart Sam (35c)

I was gonna suggest the Maxxis Raze too. I have some marked as 35c though I see they are now 33c only. It does make me wonder if they've changed the mould or just re-badged them ๐Ÿ™‚

I really like the razes, they're definitely at the fat end of 33C.
