Anyone been to either of the above today and if so, how're they draining. Last week Pitch Hill and Winterfold were sodden and riding was a bit "interesting" at times.
It's alright round about Peaslake, BKB pretty much dry and the rest is muddy but fun.
Was out on the road today around that neck of the woods, to be honest we looked muddier than half the mountain bikers at Peaslake! Suspect it's pretty wet, but it always stays ridable!
Swinley was fine today.
Was out in Swinley today, it's not too bad, Some sections are turning into Highways again (ride through the puddles!) but generally OK.. Bumped into Jesus as well, he has been out making Deerstalker and Labyrinth lovely again...
Guess it depends whether you stick to the bridleways or are on the trails...the main trails like BKB drain ok but I'd imagine trails like Surfer Rosa and Windy Willows will be a mudfest.
Cycled Dorking - Ranmore - Leith - Holmbury - Newlands - Dorking today but just on the main paths/bridleways and it was actually pretty ok.
Leith-Holmbury-Peaslake were ok today, and around St Marthas and Newlands Corner last night
despite a bit of rain this morning it was mainly a thin film of mud but solid enough underneath - mind you we avoided the covered singletrack trails as we suspected they would be muddy and didn't want to make them worse
Hey atlaz
we were over holmbury / peaslake today, parts are a little bogy (over by the reservoir) but on the whole it’s fine and great fun
May have seen some of you there today, many cake stops.
Was pretty busy what with the whole Santa Cruz thing.
I agree akira seemed to be a convention today, every other bike was a santa cruz and a fair few seemed a bit worried of getting them dirty too 😯
Hi
We rode Pitch Hill and Winterfold on Tuesday night, Holmbury Hill yesterday and Leith Hill today. The trails with very few exceptions were pretty dry. However, the bridleways are already turning to mud in the high wear areas. The dry summer and relatively dry autumn so far is being very kind to us. 🙂
If you're coming to The Surrey Hills to ride, it's worth considering that the area around Peaslake (Holmbury & Pitch Hill) and Coldharbour (Redlands and Leith Hill) is coming under a lot of pressure due to the amazing popularity of the trails these days.
If it fits in with your ride please try to start at one of the quieter car parks as this helps spread the load.
Here's a [url=
]map of all the Hurtwood car parks[/url].
For Coldharbour please try to use the National Trust 'Landslip' car park about 1km south of Coldharbour/The Plough Public House.
This should help keep the locals happy. 🙂
Cheers!

i was thinking of paying a mid week visit to the surrey hills. i think i remember someone saying there were maps available from a bike shop in the area? can anyone point me in the right direction?
When you thinking of going? I might be out this week and would be happy to show you round as long as you're not a racing snake!
ha-ha definitely no racing snake, more slow worm!
many thanks for the offer! not sure what day yet gotta beg for the day off, weds/thurs. or if not this week next. if it's next week i could work around your plans. i'll give you an email.
thanks again, much appreciated!
More likely to be Thursday for me at the moment, but let me know when you do.
Failing that then either next week or Sunday?
Cheers
thursday might work, can't do weekends. have mailed you.
hopefully we can work something out.
cheers
Just got yours and replied
Cheers
Would think Surrey Hills be much like Epping IE Crap
Swinley is better much different terrain
Surrey Hills tend to drain much better than Swinley. They also are not used as race tracks so don't get hundreds of bikes coming through tearing the place up.
I tend to steer clear of swinley in the wet.
Aye Swinley in the wet can trash your bike, Surrey Hills is much nicer.
Wet Swinley isn't that much fun. Trails become 5m wide at all times and the sand ruins bikes.
SH was good yesterday. Bit of mud but not too much and we stuck where possible to less used trails.
pastcaring - head over to Nirvana cycles in Westcott, they'll have maps and point you in the right direction to the best trails.
