[Closed] Compressing shock when measuring chain length?

As above really. Just been looking through the user manual I got with a SRAM rear Mech and it mentions compressing the shock when measuring the new chain for length.

Round big at cassette, round big chainring bypassing mech but then compress the shock to the full and them give it 2 links extra.

Is that something that should be done? Never done it like that before.

To cover for chain growth as the rear wheel moves...

(take the shock OUT, or let all the air out)

I ran big - big but through the rear mech, let the air out of the shock and then removed an appropriate number of links to make sure any chain length growth wasn't going to end in catastophe

The bypass the mech + 2 links method may work, but i wanted to double check

I put it in the worst gear and then cycle through the travel, only way to be completely sure tbh. Air out or spring off.
