What would people suggest for commuting? I'm pounding 11 miles each way 4 - 5 days a week. Puncture protection is important but clearly rolling resistance/weight is important too.

I've been rolling on Marathon Supremes since September and they're starting to get a bit tired. My only gripe with them is they are a bit too wussy with glass. The odd puncture is inevitable but on the way to/from work its a right pain in the arse.

Suggestions? Standard marathons? Armadillo?

I havent tried loads but am happy with the speed of Schwalbe City Jet, although they dont like wet ironwork. About 750g for 1.95 with puncture protection. I like that one can put 65psi into them

Another vote for the Contis. Pretty good value. Reasonable puncture resistance (nothing would have survived the glass dagger i rode over last week-fortunately 100m from LBS!). Fast rolling being slick and 1.3" wide.

Am open to other options though so lets hear them..

Road bike : Schwalbe Durano Plus 23 or 25
Not road bike : Schwalbe Marathon Plus 28 or 35c

I've yet to puncture either. The Durano's are very good in the wet.

Currently using conti tour rides in 28mm. Only about 100 miles so far with nearly half off road. Holding up well to thorny areas etc. Without any sort of sealant too.

A friend has had good results with halo twin rails. They come in extra thick casing version (berlin??) But they are heavier and roll slower apparently.

26" - Another vote for the Conti Sport Contacts
700c - Bontrager Racelite Hardcase. Cheap and extremely puncture proof in my experience

if you are talking 700c I run Specialized Nimbus Armadillo 700 x 28c on the front (great grip in the wet and a little more cushion) and Specialized Roubaix Armadillo Elite 700 x 23/25c on the rear

have run Specialized All Condition Armadillos in the past - both 23c and 25c sizes and found the damn things near lethal in the wet or when crossing drain covers, stone edging into side roads, etc.

Have been using Conti Travel Contacts for a few years now on the single speed and no complaints. Previously tried the Spesh Armadillos but found them very heavy. Last couple of weeks been trying a set of 26" x 1" Conti Gaitor Skins. These are super fast and so far puncture resistance seems good. Still getting used to their skinnyness, but have dropped the rear sprocket down to a 13 tooth (38 up front) to make the most of their speed.

Conti anythings. I used to have those Bonti Racelite Hard Case - they were great but I prefer the slightly more comfy fatboy ride I get with wider Contis.
