I'm going to be changing jobs next week and I will no longer have a work vehicle. The commute into work is about 17km with undulating terrain but no massive hills. How many commuters here also have physical jobs and how difficult do you find it?

I am a tree surgeon/arborist so a days work can be pretty hard and although I have the fitness to ride in everyday Im not sure if its just going to end up in too much training and being run down. Any thoughts?

Well it might make you a bit tired but it won't kill you, in fact, it can only make you stronger. First few weeks will be hard though.

I'm a bus mechanic and commute 12km+ each way, depending on which route I choose.
It's not as physical a job as some people imagine, I spend more time fixing fiddly wiring faults than lifting springs and brake drums.
If you're used to manual work and used to cycling, I don't think it will be a problem.
Think of it as doing bricks. ๐Ÿ˜›

That's 100 miles a week so not a huge mileage. Just take it easy and you'll be fine.

I commute 20 miles each way usually 3 days a week but ridden every day in April plus weekend rides and I could sleep for a week and that's doing a 'desk job'. Depends on your age too, I'm 46 so gets harder as you get older.
