Is there a canny way for getting extra luggage space on the commute that doesn't involve bolting a rack on? I'm talking about a commute where a rucksack is fine 9 times out of 10, but every so often you need to take more stuff, but can't really be arsed getting the rack and panniers out?

Wondering if there are bags you can bolt onto the seatpost or something like that, or maybe one of those triangular frame bags? What are folks using?

got a carradice camper longflap

curious as to why you dont just bolt the rack onto your commuter and leave it ... the rack doesnt need to come off !

Me rack is a hamax one for a child seat and it weighs a ton, so don't like it on the bike sitting un-used for most of the time.

That carradice bag is a nice suggestion, thks.

+1 on the Carradice, they are fantastic bits of kit. I've got a SQR seatpost rack and a Nelson saddlebag, you would barely know its there when its not being used.

What about a seat-post mounted rack, bolted onto a cheap seatpost with a cheap saddle on the top? Just change the whole seat arrangement, depending on what you're doing. Its what I do with my tag-along (and didn't want to clamp it to my Gravity Dropper)

Fit a Carradice Camper Longflap with SQR block.
Use that everyday and resort to the rucsac when you have extra stuff (like what I do)

Another Carradice suggestion:

16 litres, big enough for a 13" (14"?) laptop, A4 folders.

Stays put, waterproof, good for 10 kilos (though obviously it'll affect the bike handling. You're left with a black plastic block on the seatpost when you're not using the bag.

I use a seatpost mounted one for bike packing. It works perfectly fine. No issues with rattling around when off-road, so you'll be fine

Carradice SQR Slim here too. Mounts on the seatpost and is quick release so I just carry it into the office with me. Mount is left on the seatpost all the time as it is pretty unobtrusive.
