Recently bought a cross frame that I intend to build up over the next few months as funds arrived.
Principally it will be a winter road bike, but with the minimum of fuss convertable to a racing cross bike.
I am thinking along the following:
Shimano 9 speed sti (RH).
Tektro CR720i front brake
Tektro V-brake compatible LH brake lever
Rear V-brake (I want to be able to stop not just scrub speed).
46 tooth chainring on Shimano chainset.
No inner ring.
12-27 cassette.
1. Does the above seem sensible?
2. Is rear mech length important if using 1 chain ring?
3. Other than aesthetics, will the feel of the different brake levers cause a problem?
4. Please recommend a chain guard/holder thingy to keep the chainring on.
Thanks
Rear V-brake (I want to be able to stop not just scrub speed).
Your front brake does the stopping, well as much as it can on 35mm tyres off road!
2. As long as it clears the 27T cog, no.
3. Only to the pedantic 😉
3. Front mech, old bean. And a second chainring 😉
that's a big old chainring as your only ring, I'd be looking at a 42t if you ever intend to use it on anything hill or anything offroad (maybe even smaller)
