Anyone got a Commencal 666 2008, was thinking of getting one and the reviews are really mixed. A few people saying the geometry is not slack enough! Looking for a do it all bike or as close to it as I can get, going to France in the summer to fall off over there for a while. 😀

I've just finished my 09 Meta 6 build. Geometry tweaked for 09. Rides great on trails, really comes alive when pointed downhill. best of both worlds!
Merlin are doing good deals on them at the moment.

Cheers for the reply, that's where I seen the 2008 going for a good price this wknd. Does it climb well for the amount travel that's on it?
Better than the Supreme/Mini DH at least I'd imagine!
Fine on the climbs, i've built it up quite beefy still climbs ok. I don't know how much it weighs.
I think the angles where tweaked between 08 and 09.
Are you looking at the Meta 6.3 on sale at the moment? the 08 666 is showing out of stock.
I like it as much as my Cotic Soul, both great bikes but very different.
I was looking at the 08 666, it says out of stock but has xl size option available. I added it to the basket and its letting me buy it, so i'm guessing its still available or at least I hope so. I think we must have similar ideas of the bikes we like as I have Cove handjob, didnt go for the Cotic as the frame size was a bit small for me, I'm a lanky 6'6".

I believe there's one degree of dif in the head angle so it's really just down to the build. Adjustable head angle on the minidh, a wind down fork will negate much of the differnece. I think the mini is the more versatile bike.
tcas146 - that's a great build, what's the weight, ate those 55ata2 forks? Would love to contribute to this thread as I am building up an 08 meta 6 - got a cheap frame too in an xl, but not finished it yet!
Not sure on weight.
Joplin, SLX groupset and chunky bontrager earl wheelset.
The forks are the 55ATA's. I thought I'd try them as they came free with the frame. Have to see reliability wise! nice and light very adjustable. Don't trust Marzocchi's weight to pressure chart it's way out.

Thanks mate I will. I had some ata2's on my Yeti. Just sent them back to the factory for the 2nd time in 6 months. Solved the problem - bought some coil Lyriks but will be using the Marzocchi's on the Commencal build. Wish I could get rid of them to be honest, but the Lyriks have skinted me and I'll get bugger all for the Marzocchi's!
Your build is very similar to the one I will have - Bontrager wheels, Shimano groupset, Marzocchi forks and it looks great, which fills me with confidence. Hows it ride? The reviews weren't that great but the price of my frame was!
rockitman, where did you get your 666 08 frame set and how tall are you? you said you'v got the xl, that's the size I would be buying and I haven't had a chance to size one.

rockitman, just been out to weigh the beast, 36lbs with the maxxis hi roller dual ply DH tyres (over 1kg each). could loose a couple with thomson seat post and lighter wheels. I'm happy with it as is for now.
I got my frame back in September. Got it from my LBS on a price match when Merlin were selling them for £650.
I'm 6'6". Think it should be OK. I ride an XL 575 and that's fine.
What size is yours tcas146 - medium?
Its a large.
50mm, 0 degree rise Thomson stem. Front fees a little high, might move the spacers.
Otherwise feels perfect.

Im 6'2 with last years medium, built up with 36's, and a mini DH build, 9 speed etc. Use it more as a bike to descend with the ability to ascend to make it possible.
Ignore the not slack enough brigade, goes down a treat. If youre really worried about it not being slack, you can quite possibly stick the .5' slacker tube insert out of the DH bike in it. But ull have no warranty - if they find out that is...

I came from the Meta 5.5 to 666. Can't see the hoo-ha about the angles personally. Can ride it all day, happily climb anything tackled on the smaller bike and much better on descents. A great bike and som bargains to be had. Mine is medium{I'm 6ft1in} but I do like my bikes to be on the small side. Fox 36 float rc2 up front and RP23 at back.
That looks sweet. How do you find the single chain ring?
