[#6970832]

Entries are are now being encouraged for the 12th annual Colne Valley Mountain Bike Challenge, taking place this year on Sunday 10th May 2015 at 9.00am.

The FULL course is a challenging one (as you'd expect) and consists of approx. 30 miles of local paths, tracks, bridleways and lanes around the picturesque Colne Valley area of Huddersfield - regularly featured on TV as settings for Last Of The Summer Wine and Where The Heart Is. We also now have an optional SHORTER course of 20 miles for those wishing to take part, but who might find the full route a bit too much of an undertaking.

The cost of entry is £17 pre-booked (entry forms available at www.cvmbc.co.uk ) and £22 on the day - although we do encourage pre-booking as it greatly assists the organisation of the event.

All participants will receive a free commemorative T-Shirt and certificate upon completion. The course will be fully marshalled throughout and will have 4 refreshment stops at designated points. There will also be a back-up vehicle available for anyone who wishes to (or is forced to!!) retire early.

Bacon Butties will be on sale beforehand at a nominal £1.00 each, but apart from these EVERYTHING ELSE refreshment wise (soup, bread, bananas, flap-jack, biscuits, coffee, tea etc etc) is FREE. Yes FREE. There is also a brilliant little pub - The Walkers Arms - situated on site, so those that wish to can partake of a pint (or two) if so desired.

So, to sum it up - it's a 30 mile (or 20 mile) challenging MTB ride, fully marshalled, fully 'catered' and absolutely FANTASTIC VALUE, with a pub on site to finish the day off as well. You won't find a better day out in this area on the 10th May. Come and give it a go - you've nothing to lose and we're absolutely certain that you'll be well looked after and have a great time.

If you've entered before, then the chances are you'll have already received an entry form in the post - as I spent most of my spare time at work last Thursday and Friday franking and posting hundreds of the buggers!

Just to clarify:
The event starts at 9.00am - so you need to be arriving earlier than that to park up, register, use the loo etc etc
There will be entry on the day - but that will cost £22 as opposed to the £17 for pre-entry.

It's like summer here in t'Udders at the mo, the trails are baked dry and dusty.

Get those entries in the post whilst it's fresh in your mind and come and test yourself over some great terrain.

If you enter the 30 , can you just do the 20 if you're feeling knackered half way , or vice versa carry on & do 30 if you're feeling great ( basically ... i'm 48 , with a groin strain , just getting over the flu & i've never entered anything like this in my life .....will i die ? ) ?

It's a fun event ernie67, so you can ride as you see fit. My advice would be to enter the 30 and see how it's going when you get to the split. I reckon that once you're riding and full of adrenaline you'll be fine and make it round in one piece. Don't worry, we'll look after you if there's a problem.

Did I mention that the bacon butties are still only £1.00 each?? 🙂

How many people usually enter the 30 miler? Does each rider get given an overall time that it took to complete it?

EDIT - just answered my own question by looking at the website!

Don't delay - get those forms in the post today!

Plenty of room for everyone, but it really helps us if we know how many are coming.

Still loads of time to get your entries in before the day.
If you're local - stick your cash/cheque and entry form through my door. If I'm in I'll sort it straight away for you. If I'm out, make sure there's a mobile number and I'll text you your entry number.
If you're not local - post off your cheque and entry form and as long as a) there's a mobile number and b) I get it in the post no later than Saturday's delivery, then again I'll text you your entry number.
You've no excuses now folks - don't miss out!!!

And the bacon butties really are only £1.00 too!!

TSA, is there plenty of water at the feed stations? I'm wondering if I can get away without having to use a camelbak.

mos - yes mate, there should be plenty. All the feed stations will have at least one 'drum' of SiS energy drink there. The 2nd one (top of Pule Hill) will have water aswell. Stick a bottle cage/bottle on the bike if you can and you should manage without a camelbak.

There's not really any official parking, but there's plenty of on-street spaces around and about. Just find somewhere near the cricket club and try not to annoy any residents...

Just a reminder that we'll have a couple of professional Sports Masseurs (Adam Hirst who works with Northern Ballet and Karen Hellawell from Pennine Physio) with us on Sunday, available both before and after you've ridden. It's only £5.00 for a 10 minute session (proceeds to their chosen charities) and a great way to relax and start the recovery process. Why not treat yourself after your exertions - at that price it's an absolute bargain and fantastic value!!

And did I mention the bacon butties are ONLY £1.00??
