Is there any way of strapping up a slightly dislocated CB to facilitate riding or would that be unwise?

I guess you mean separated AC joint? I did it in the alps one summer (tho I didn't know what I'd done til i got home) using a proper shoulder brace got from a chemist out there.

And I do always say this on collar bone threads but to those with recent breaks, go see these guys. I was on my road bike under 3 weeks after breaking mine in to 4 bits and being borderline operation (they offered I said no). www.physioclinic.net

I'm borderline op too - re x-ray on Wednesday. I've been reviewed by 3 or 4 docs so far and they still aren't sure.

Mine was x-rayed last week, 4 months after breaking it.
There is still a big gap with no evidence of boney growth and still in some pain.
They don't seem to interested in doing anything about it.
Got back on the bike 2 weeks ago.

2wheels1guy - if the break is big (towards the edge of the shoulder) then I don't think you get new bone growth, at least that was what I was told when I did mine. The bone is under tension so won't come down again naturally. They said that it would just be scar tissue holding it together but not to worry about it.

I was given three options re an op but none of them sounded particularly great and had a high risk of failure, was told to leave it six months to a year and if it still hurt after that consider the op.

Ten months on and my left collarbone still sticks up about 3/4 inch above where it used to be, no problems and doesn't hurt. (Aches very occasionally, but nothing more so far).

Oh, and OP, I'd rest a couple of weeks, won't hurt and give you some good healing time. ๐Ÿ™‚

I was told that it is very unlikely to fix if it is sticking up like that so you will need a hooked plate.
