Somehow while riding my bike, my front wheel collapsed the other evening at the foot of relatively smooth but steep hill. Wheel is/was a Hope Pro 2 c/w DT 4.something rim from a few years ago. Wheel was taco'd or more like Pringle shaped.
The wheel did not hit anything, no landing from a jump - just rolling down a hill until the forks compressed coming off the descent. Pringled!
It got me wondering, do wheels last indefinitely or do they have a shelf life? Hub still looks perfect. i'm aware that DT were renowned for being a bit soft at the time. Fatigued perhaps?
Wheel prices seem to have come down since i last bought some. Going for new wheel Hope Pro 2 Stans Flow front wheel - almost as cheap new as buying the bits to rebuild my wheel!!
Disc or rim brake?
disc brake - so i've exactly worn out the rim.
you mean "not exactly" ? You have time to fix it ๐
Mus have hit something side-on, or spokes had loosened A LOT.
No shelf life IMO/E (within reason) as long as spokes remain tight.
