[#697913]

It is back and entries open. Sunday 25th October 2009 at 10am at Coed Y Brenin. 5k Trail/mini fell run/20k Mountain Bike/5k Trail/mini fell run. Solo or relay teams of 2/3 people. The bike route may be changed due to forestry work, which in some ways keeps the route-guessing exciting, with a little extra singletrack from last year and a massive fire road downhill to see what speed you can acheive (have measured a new one just in case. Comes out about 1/2K short) but it does include another lung busting uphill Online entry no extra charge.

Looks like the course from last year will be used as they are re-instating the road after harvesting work going on schedule!

Bump.

This is worth a look. Vince is a top bloke (with many traffic cones) and prolific grass roots event organiser. However, he doesn't spam the forums like I do ๐Ÿ˜‰ , so there is a risk that events like this don't get the attention that they deserve.

All proceeds go to teaching Welsh ambulance drivers how to fly helicopters.

Highly recommended. Done it several years running now. Last years bike route much improved over previous years. See you all there.

Several years? This is only the 4th year, just feels longer. In fact this year will be the first year of using the same course/set up as the previous year (apart from a slightly tweaked transition area. Okay have to tweak something )

Entries coming in and just to warn you, this race does sell out before we get to allowing entries on the day.

Gratuitous bump. A near crisis averted as my parent were not able to look after the kids that weekend so would have meant leaving the 'L' in VLA Events at home to look after them. They couldn't come with us for two reasons:
Youngest has a dance show that weekend.
They wouldn't all fit in the van we hire
Problem solved now, we just miss the dance show but the race was booked first in the calender ๐Ÿ™

We have a place to stay 5 miles away if interested?
One of my marshals comes down from Glasgow for the weekend. Admittedly it is more for the beer than the race ๐Ÿ˜‰ And a load of us from Manchester

Now I meant to do it this year but forgot & now we're booked up at Afan - maybe next year ๐Ÿ™‚

What's with the long fireroad descent? - is it to placate those that won't enter anything remotely technical?

How technical is the bike course? Is it just fire road?! Hello by the way.

The long fire road descent was plan b while the forestry work was happening. Now it is finished, back to plan a with no big descent down a fire road! The bike is not too technical, as the top people go eye balls out and the idea is to raise money for air ambulance, not get them called out!
The ascents mostly up on fire roads with the main descent down 'Rocky Horror Show (twice) a nice singletrack descent, and also the dual descender (twice), a flowing back and forth section. At the latest measuring it is 1400 feet of climbing over the 20k :-0

Bump.
Entries coming slowly but surely. There is another bike race there on the 11th so they are padding down the course for us! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Okay, 2 weeks left before it rolls out. Information has been sent out to those who have already entered (unless it has been in the last 48 hours)

He knows anyone who thinks they have the energy to go biking the day after the race gets his trainer laces tied together for the 2nd run ๐Ÿ˜‰

The amount you can make up on the MTB will have to stand you in good stead ๐Ÿ˜€

Brilliant event guys, thanks. Was surprised at the extent of climbing, but made for a fun run and ride. I was quite happy with my effort of 21st. (15th in cat) given that it was my first event of this type. Amazing effort from winner, with a time of 1.36...

Why thank you ๐Ÿ˜‰

A great event,i am amazed more of these events are not in the calender.Nice to see the BTA are starting to recognise the off road stuff by having the first off road triathlon national champs in 2010 (British cross champs,as they call them)

Thanks Vince and his team
