I have not been to this centre, is it worth the 2 hour trip ?

XC and red routes are my thing and I love climbs ๐Ÿ˜€

Hmmmmmmmm - Llandegla threads always get a mixed response on here !

IMO (& it is only IMO) - I like it & have always had fun there. There is v little (basically no) climbing though (with the exception of a very short switchback style climb).I have travelled there from a similar distance to you (Bridgnorth) & always found it worthwhile. You could link it up with a ride round the Clwyds from the fattyres mountain bike website which I did last time, which was excellent & 15 mins from the trail centre.
Other thing is weekends are mentally busy with lots of mincers, its a different place in the week.

I kinda guessed it would get a mixed response, but as I have not been there before I would like to give it a go...

Here's the link to the ride we did in the Clwyds, which is 15 mins from Llandegla. If you do this at least it makes a day of it & makes the drive more worthwhile.

Theres enough climbing on the red/black routes to leave me shattered. In fact the climbs are the only thing there that are hard IMO ๐Ÿ™‚

Its not very technical (no matter what speed you ride the trails at) but as long as you go not expecting it to be then I'm sure you'll have a fairly good time. MBR seem to like it.

Certainly seems very popular what with the huge crowds it gets at weekends but I'm not sure what they are doing that requires the 6" of travel at both ends many of them seem to have.

Still, if we all liked the same thing it'd be a boring world.

It's also one of those places that you pull up to in the carpark thinking - "**** me the trails will be rammed today" but in reality everyone just seems to be mincing about the car park & the cafe, their 2k Santa Cruz locked nicely to the back of their Q7/Navara/Discovery etc....

I like Llandegla. However I wouldnt drive more than an hour unless you were doing an area tour.

Its abit like Grizedale- great fun, an itch to scratch but not a destination from a long distance IMO.

It's 13 miles round, so I guess even a few hundred on the trail will be spread quite thinly. Great fun.

There are other bridleways in and around the forest as well to make it a more worthwhile trip than sticking to the new graded trails.

Spend another 30mins in the car & head for Nant-y-Arian & the brilliant Summit trail.

I like llandegla as something to ride now and then, it's not technical but it is a good laugh, I reckon you can go much faster on the descents on a ht than a bike with 6" each end, really pedally!

I'd say it's worth it, at least once. Did the 2 hr trip over from Derby on Saturday and despite the 'incident' we had it was great fun! As chvck says, fast and fun but not technical - think of it like a long BMX track ๐Ÿ™‚
