I know it might be a bit early, but its only a few weeks away.
only 2 1/2 weeks away, hope the weather holds its like dust up there at mo! thinking of going up friday night if weather good, get Jewson on barbie duty again ๐
Wondered how long it would be till someone cracked! I'll be there first solo 24 hour race I've entered! slightly scared I might die!
Yep. Couple of teams of our lot going. Hoping for dry and sunny
Just made up my mind to ride it solo, entry form in the post today.
Having been blessed with a healthy daughter 5 weeks ago it inspired me to help others not so fortunate.
So no structured training for me, just turn up and shoot.
I must have missed the announcement. Well done Mike!
Thanks! She's a great bundle of fun.
It only gets better, although your riding time may dip a bit for a while. ๐

It's actually increased!
Crikey!
I have a very understanding wife.
I signed up to do this solo with the idea that it would give me a goal and motivate me to ride more/train properly and get fit.
Three times I started a training programe and three times I came down with [s]a cold[/s] severe flu.
So now we are two weeks away and the longest ride I have done this year is three hours, I was broken afterwards.
I have been undecided whether to actually turn up or not, but as someone said to someone else in another thread on this site 'the worst that can happen is you finish last. mtfu'
I am now delaying the please sponsor me email to everyone at work because once that goes out I have to do it, but I'm 90% sure I will be there, struggling along at the back.
Strangelove - you're not obliged to spend the whole 24hrs continually racing around the circuit. Lots of people just do a few token laps and then spend the evening socialising, with maybe another lap or two in the morning for good measure. The event's about raising money and having a good time. So go along, have a ride and enjoy yourself. Just don't tell your sponsors that you intend to do twenty laps or something silly then you wont feel awkward collecting the money the week afterwards when you only ended up doing four laps and then got completely pissed ๐
has anyone had their race details sent yet?
No details as such... I don't think! Anyone seen the weather forecast for the weekend? Tis looking rather grim!
Yep looks like it maybe another clic24 washout, having ridden two Clics in the mud and rain I for one shall not bother unless the weather improves.
I can imagine how bad the trails will be if it does rain like previous years! Certain parts will resemble the somme.

The trails held up quite well last year despite the rain as (like this week) there wasn't much rain prior to the race, however persistent rain and well below normal seasonal temp over the 24 hour period will certainly put me off soloing.
The trails are currently great. I was up there for a couple of hours this afternoon and was pleasently surprised.
Here are some more, inc; a couple from Mayhem, making up on of my submissions to 2009's PX3 international competition.

From 2008. It was so warm & dry & peaceful at 01:00.
If you are going, say hello.
I'm the official photographer (3rd year) so make yourselves known & I'll do my damndest to make sure I get around to taking some 1/2 decent pictures both in the campsite & out on the trails.
I'll be wearing a pink carnation in my lapel and will be carrying a copy of the FT. Plus a few cameras.
I'll be the one in the chicken suit!
Look out for the tall miserable git wearing a Las Vegas Institute of Sport Jersey.
Forcast has improved as well - fingers crossed.
I'll be the one buggering off somewhere else whilst you lot ride my trails...

Do you remeber last year's mud?!
Yes I had 12 hours of it solo before I binned it, that said it was nothing compared to 2007 (I think) that was a complete shatfest.
i did it a few years ago and the weather was lovely
oh dear its going to be messy
id better clean my drivetrain tonight
2008 = lovely weather, tyre exited rim on the first descent. Mildly broke myself but still had an ace time
2009 = Wet, cold and windy. Managed to stay on the bike, did more laps although abandoned it when it started sleeting! Sunday AM was properly grim.
2010 = Have to go to a wedding ๐
Brilliant charity tho, and I'm doing something else for them this year. Brilliant event as well, cannot be as cold as last year. Sad that "Team Hardcore Slacking" cannot make it this year.
Last year was proper slippery in places, although I did do my first 6 laps with semi slicks on so that probably didn't help.

yup forecast is looking much better now
hog roast on friday will probably be my highlight tho!
I guess the question is.
Its it hardtail country, or do i take the FS too for comfort?
Im turning up for the 24hr food & drink marathon, with the possibility of getting a couple laps in on the bike ๐
Either will do.
It's not at all technical.
HT might be quicker, but TBH, I personally don't find much difference between my HT & the Full sus' as the HT is 29 & the HT is 26, so they're evenly matched for speed on dry fast trails. The HT 29 might edge it at Clic24 on 2nd thoughts.
If you're 24hr solo, bring both.
I'd imagine a full sus only being an advantage on that one rocky section (although only marginally) and the moorland bit at the top. But the long firetrail drag will be hard tail country... swings and roundabouts!
Will take both as I have the space, and no not a nuts solo rider, i'm copping out in a team of 4.
Might try the FS to see if I have finally got it set up as I want it to be
Rode the course last night, super fast at the moment, dry and dusty!
Just watch out for the stones poking out as I got a nice pinch flat last night!!
HT Scandal for me, pointy rocks? Nothing to worry about I'm sure my 100g tubes pumped up to 45psi will cope. ๐
If you see me out on the course give us as much encouragement as poss (white MET helmet, Las Vegas Institute of Sport jersey) as I really am going solo, I've no pit bitch or support, billy no mates for 24 hours ๐ฅ
Hello all thanks for everyone's support at keeping me going! And sorry if I seemed rude/cut you up or anything... I was rather tired!
Smashing event again! And the weather wasn't too bad either! Well done to everyone!
Was good fun, we didn't do many laps in my team, preferring to get some sleep, a 6am lap was amazing though.
To the nutter who did 23laps solo, fair play thats 230 miles in 24hrs, mental.
Great event and does anyone know where the photos will be?
muddybum
Photos will, when I've sorted them out will be at the above link.
A quick "Best of" hopefully this evening but I've only been home less than an hour (9pm) and I have a full day's shoot tomorrow, Monday.
Cool, will keep that bookmarked.
Where were you stationed?
Wondering who it was at the first big downhill with the jump on it yesterday
a wonderfull weekend of riding round in circles on my favourite trails...polished off with a good many Bath Ales. Brilliant.
Thanks also to anyone on here who joined in and had chat with me enroute (was riding a riding IF sspd) ... cheers all! it was superbe. Looking forwards to 2011 already.
Top event! Could have done a lot better but my sleeping bag was marginally warmer then the night time air.
