I'd appreciate any tips on a household product for lifting glue residue off rims/frames?

IPA would be a good try.

Thanks folks, going to drop into Maplins for some mini cable-ties so that sounds like a winner!

Petrol...IPA and nail vernish remover are useless.
Petrol is much chepaer than WD40 and GT85, so wins here.
Petrol also to prep an inner tube before applying the 'glue'.
