He's stated he's dealing with it on a first come first served basis. Whats wrong with waiting for the first responder to get back after pics? The chap is being polite - you are being impatient! IMHO of course...

It seems common courtesy to deal with the first enquiry first, though the seller would be justified in selling to the first firm offer if they wished

I don't think there's any "etiquette" problem. Personally, I'd sell to you, but I don't see that it's rude not to.

Sorry druidh, I don't get it, it's up to the seller what he accepts, and you only made an offer (rather than accepting his).

Never took you for the grumpy old man tbh...:HILARIOUSWINKS:

First to offer cashmoney gets it- that's common sense.

He asked £27, first person asks for photos, second offers less than asked - surely, on multiple levels, the "right" thing to do is to deal with 1st person first. The seller has every right to view his choices, it's not a forced sale.

yeah, it IS bollocks but it's up to the seller to prioritise calls of (****in') dibbs/faint shows of interest vs actual buyers 😯

edit: (hadn't noticed you'd offered below asking - yeah, I'd call that a bit impatient)

I'd have done what he did druid. I don't see why you're huffy about it either.

Not so much huffy - just curious as to what to expect in future. If it was me, I'd accept, or turn down a firm offer. But then I don't believe in this "dibs" thing either.

I'm amazed that you can get your panties in a bunch over this, when there are far more glaring examples of cockish behaviour on the classifieds.

The seller has an offer from you for less than he's asking. He has no reason to suspect your offer is only valid for a short period so leaves it open while others still seem interested. You get annoyed that he doesn't bit your hand off.

You fail!

no i usually give the first interested party a bit of leeway,

druidh is being impatient. not everyone has that much free time on their hands.

that and your offer was short of the asking price.

If it's your advert, you can set the terms. I would always say that the first person willing to pay gets it (eg no dibbs) but each to their own...

I think all this "calling dibs" is a load of boll*cks. Hardly any of the threads get past 5 posts and hardly any contain straight offers like druidh's, that is all done on email. Somebody posts an item and 3 minutes later its effectively off the market because somebody calls dibs and we're all friends here. It favours the buyer because they can then offer less money by email knowing the seller will have less interested parties.

The whole thing would run better if interested buyers posted their current offers on the thread instead of this constant low-balling by email.

OP not the worst I have seen and would not have been that offended
Think first to offer asking price gets it and then it is first to ask etc.
as that thread above shows it is very out of order to be pasing things on for a profit ...covering postage may be one thing but seling stuff youw were given

I would like to know how much space KonaLance intends to free up by selling a pair of plastic brake spacers and a Rock Shox rebound knob. He must have a very small house indeed. 🙂

It'd all work so much better if people would post PICTURES AND FULL INFO with the item, rather than posting a "tester" and then answering emails regarding the items, then dibs would not be needed as people could see what they were buying, all the details on it and make an offer. Nothing worse than someone saying "I've X for sale for £Y" and then everyone wanting to actually see the product having to email seperately to get more details.

but then im discriminated against, as the work firewall blocks most user pic hosting sites.

*calls the discrimination hotline, applies for compensation*

Ditto soobalias - I can rarely see the pics so have to email for them. That said, I pretty much always put pics on my ads right from the start.

I usually try not to be too pedantic on the internet, but for god's sake can STW ban eye-catching post titles such as used by Konalance?

Makes it much harder to scan thread titles - and generally brings the tone of the whole place down.
