I've entered the novice category, anyone else entered? I've only entered because it looks like fun, I fully expect to have my ass handed to me in the first round 🙂

Somehow I got talked into entering the Seniors, I'll be the guy on the single speed who looks like he's going backwards compared to everyone else!

Beer hand ups gratefully received 😉

I'm going to enter on payday. good chance to see if my "no bike, all gym training" over winter has made me into a classics killing velogod. Or not. I'll also bring my camera for some nice pics!

as an aside.. what tyres for a tip?

I recommend elbow and kneepads, there doesn't seem to be much grass, looking at Google Earth and the Morvelo website.

We had to move site as our permission was revoked. We're in from Wednesday building the course.

All news goes on www.citycross.co.uk

This will be like nothing you've ever tried before.

Probably get flamed for this, but - lock everything down mate, if stuff can be nicked or broken, it will be! Not in the best part of town I'm afraid 🙁

I had a drive down on Fri for a sneaky peek 🙂

Fingers crossed the forecast is right, looks bloomin' great!

It's ok the police are coming.

Some as foot patrol and if there's enough left in the budget I've requested a mounted section....mainly because i like police horses 🙂

I've also invited the West Yorks Police Cycle Team. They're a nice bunch. Bright yellow and blue kit.

The map link that was sent from events@regonline.activeeurope.com is wrong BTW, it shows a map for this address when you click the link:

Shroggs
Luddenden Foot, Halifax, West Yorkshire HX2 6JX

That looks ace, pity that 1) I am at work all that weekend, and 2) it is 350 miles away from me!

I will read withn interest: we have a couple of great race organisers in the south west and a range of abilities of xc/cx/road racers. It would be well good someone (shred/fully sussed/inevent) tried something similar down here.

ok, I'll get map changed.

as a useless not a "shrogg" is a small scrubby tree.

Type brakenbed lane into google. Shroggs park is one side and shroggs tip is the other

I know where it is millscc, I just wanted to make sure non-local folk got the right info 🙂

0TB is a pretty apt post code for a bike event BTW, it's a sign 😉

Any more for any more? I've just seen pics of the course from Joolze Dymond via her Twitter feed, looks great.
I'll be [s]racing[/s] riding round with a number on in the Seniors. And then gracefully retiring to the coffee stall. 😉

That was good that was.

Well done the organisers and the competitors, especially everyone styling it up on the jump!

Hmmm... I'm feeling a bit so-so about it. £20 for 20 minutes riding and scrambling seems rather steep in hindsight, should've got a free tshirt chucked in the goodie bag too I reckon, especially as that's morvelo's thing. There was a good atmosphere about the course and the place in general though and the pizza from the van was excellent. Shame dark star brewery didn't turn up??

Dark star did the beer shortcut, not sure if that was on every heat though. They certainly heckled me into a beer shot on my last laps. Hope the young rider who broke himself on the jump is ok. Well done everyone, hope there's a next year 🙂

the guy in the underpants eneded up with a nasty stain down the back of 'em - think he out braked his tyres coming down the slope to the beer shortcut (just b4 the cabbage throwing area)

Hate to sound a note of discord but I failed to see where the "City" bit came in. It seemed to me that it was regular cyclocross with a couple of silly bits on a piece of wasteland. IMHO the Rapha Supercross at Broughton Hall was much better and in fabulous suroundings

Also the Rapha Supercross had a Tequila shortcut

I missed the Darkstar beers too... The website definitely implied there'd be a 'Darkstar beer tent' which to me means I can go buy some of their tasty wares.

Still Black Sheep's not the worst beer in the world.

Had to laugh at the Jim'll fix it theme being belted out half way through the day (although with so many kids around I'm not so sure it should have been!)

Stavro - I wasn't at the Rapha. It also looks good though. The original site for the Citycross was at/through an old Mill but land owners permission got pulled at a late stage.

Surprised the Rapha race didn't have a Moet shortcut. Or an option where you could go up your own arse.

From what I saw yesterday really opened my eyes to 'cross. I thought it was a load of oddballs mincing around a field and carrying their bikes. And yes, there were some oddballs and there was some definite mincing and there was carrying being done by everyone but the pace of the racing and the containment within a small area made it pretty good for spectators. Its not going to make me rush out and buy a cross bike but I'll definitely maybe give it a go if they run it in future on a rigid MTB.

And seeing grins on faces and overhearing people there, I think it was pretty well thought off - it was certainly MUCH better attended by both racers and spectators than I thought it was going to be. The only negative I overheard on the day was some jumped up little sh*t who had won a helmet and heavens above, it was a BMX type piss pot which was "crap".

Meow DBW. Don't give a hoot about Rapha products or personalities, I was just saying they put on a cracking event that looked like everyone there enjoyed and if you are going to promote any event with the word city in it, then there should be some urban element to say the least.

RE the City part of the city cross-
the original venue was in an old mill building, but at last min the owner changed his mind about the use of his land, I guess it was better to move venue, rather than cancel the whole event.

https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=halifax&hl=en&ll=53.729217,-1.868362&spn=0.010232,0.013003&sll=53.800651,-4.064941&sspn=5.230481,6.657715&t=m&hnear=Halifax,+West+Yorkshire,+United+Kingdom&z=15

Mile from the town centre, old cobbled descents and surrounded by residential areas. And as its been mentioned, the original location which was meant to be in and around an old mill fell through at the last minute. Not a bad venue I didn't think for a last minute venue change.

As far as I'm aware its been a patch of wasteland for years - ideal for building an urban bike loop like the new one in Sheffield or something.
