[#1643925]

Im thinking of selling my one ride old 2010 Giant XTC frameset and investing in a Bfe but i was wondering how it will perform with a 100mm travel Reba upfront?

Will i have to get a longer travel fork or will 100mm be fine?

Cheers for any help guys.

Check out www.cotic.co.uk/geek

The geometry is the same for the soul and the bfe and I know my soul ride fine at 100 mm

It'll be fine for XC stuff - handling will be definitely on the speedy side, but it'll climb like a rat up a drain pipe.

If you've got Rebas, you should be able to rebuild them so they're 120mm anyway (115mm if they're old ones).

Im happy with them at 100mm its just i would have stuck them on the classified if i'd had to. It will be used for xc so think i will stick with 100mm.

Now i need someone to buy my XTC first so i can afford the frame.

It'll be fine at 100, but it'll absolutely rock at 120 (got 120 rebas on my Soda and it's just spot on). You lose very little on the climbs, but the extra slackness is a distinct advantage on teh downs.

I'd say from experience the longer the better - 100m is fine but 120-130 is awesome. At 120mm I'd agree you don't lose too much on the climbs but makes it sure-footed on the downs.

The fork length very much depends on where you live/ride.

I had a 100mm Magura Menja on my Soul and then swapped for a 130mm Menja. That plus a shorter stem and moving the saddle forward a touch has made it a better bike for me. I ride Cannock Chase, Lakes, Peak and it doesn't slow down the steering or make it wandery on the climbs. If I was somewhere flatter I would be just as happy with the 100mm.

Its pretty flat round here and where i ride. I guess i'd stick with the 100 and then if i have to i can change the Reba's up. They are 2008 but have the 2010 motion control unit.

It doesn't sound as if you'd gain anything by getting rid of your Giant for a BFe if its dead flat where you live and you just ride XC?

BFe with 'short' forks will be an absolute blast on the Singletrack: Taut!

I'm looking for a 2010 XTC large frame if you're selling. . .

Seems an odd choice really. I'm a total cotic fanboy but for what you describe, I wouldn't get a Bfe, if money's the reason not to get a Soul get something cheaper that's designed for XC use rather than paying for the strength (in both cash and weight) of the Bfe.

IMO of course ๐Ÿ˜‰ But, get a Scandal. Or an Inbred or a 456 or a PA or a love/hate or one of the other 50 steel frames that are designed for this job.
