My sister has asked me about bar mounted lights for her OH who commutes. I think she willing to spend upto £70.

She's found these so far and as I have absolutely no idea about these photon emitter thingy-ma-bobs so I thought I'd ask the hive for advice.

Any thoughts on these:

or are there others worth looking at?

Thanks in advance

Save yourself some money and get one of these. Recently improved battery 'sheath' (oh-er).

I use one on an unlit rural cycle path every day and it is superb.

Big 1000 lumen lights not always great for commuting if it's a road commute (though they do usually have lower power settings.) Lezyne gets good reviews and is USB chargeable which is handy if you need to top it up before heading home.

It is actually illegal to have a light that dazzles other road users, which most of those lights would.

Plus it might be nice to be road legal if giving as a present, so look for something German, or something that meets that German k standard.

i use a lezyne macro drive as a commuter light, and it's more than adequate.
fairly light/unobtrusive, nice and bright with a decent beam, USB rechargeable.

I've read that these are one of the first bike lights with a road/commuter specific light pattern that is not supposed to dazzle cars like offroad lights tend to do.

Only thing bad I have seen about the phillips is battery life, there' ssomeone on here that has done a mod.

This set is supposed to be standards compliant :

http://www.amazon.co.uk/DirectTM-Rechargeable-Charging-Certified-Standard/dp/B0047TL79I/ref=sr_1_8?s=sports&ie=UTF8&qid=1387181022&sr=1-8&keywords=B%C3%BCchel

Although whether the rear is - check Buschels web site.

Then supplement with another flasher for visibility if you want to spend more.
