I'm pretty sure this has been done on here before but couldn't find the answer
I'm looking at a set of Chinese carbon wheels for the road bike with the intention of buying early next year or possibly sooner. I've looked at light-bicycle and carbonzone. Any experience of either of these or any others I should be looking at?
I weigh 67kg, I don't do massively long descents, the bike is generally dry weather only and I don't want to pay zipp prices.
I'm looking at 38mm front and rear. Any experience or links would be great. Thanks.
Couple of threads been knocking about on these wheels fairly recently. A google search might throw them up. Generally good experience iirc?
I remember reading a couple of threads on frames but nothing recent on wheels.

Mmm that link isn't working, does some odd stuff then goes to google. I had a similar issue when trying to open the web page of a Chinese carbon wheel supplier last week.
I have Carbonzone 38mm clinchers, they have been superb. Quality is top notch.
Easy people to deal with too.
Hubs are Novatec.
Again no first hand experience, but I know of a couple of people who have used WheelsFar.

I've got 38mm clinchers from China, no issues at all, light, spin well, look the business.

OP I have carbonzone 38mm tub wheels with the novatec hub. Total cost including the import and 'handling fee' was with a quid or two of £300 from memory. Took about two weeks to get here, most of that time was them sat in Royal Mail Coventry import depot.
They've been used purely as cross wheels and have done just fine at that.
I'm 85kg btw.
Thanks for the info so far. For the clincher wheels listed as circa 1200g, is that weight realistic?
Think my tub wheels are ca. 1300g

Edit: I know they're 24mm but I'm not sure ill gain much benefit going for 38mm. I'd rather go lighter rather than aero.
To the OP why do you want them? I've got 50mm clinchers from Carbonzone. Delivery was painless and the wheels are fine. They look great on the bike but the braking, even with carbon specific pads, is not as good as alloy rims and they aren't as stiff as a good alloy wheel. There may be an aero benefit but you'll never feel it and unless you TT a lot and seconds are important its not a compelling reason to get them. I had them on the bike for 6 months with no issues then put my Fulcrum Racing 1 set back on for an Alps trip and the carbonzones have stayed in the garage ever since.

But seriously, I'd like a new set of wheels, the bike is generally dry weather only so braking isn't such an issue. Seems a good way to lose 300g
I've got some box section road wheels and carbon mountain rims from http://speedercycling.com/. The rims have been very good. Build quality on the road wheels was poor, they used too short spokes and long Al nipples which meant the nipples failed prematurely and required complete rebuilds. So my recommendation would be to get the rims and either build the wheels yourself or get it done locally.
I bought some 24mm tubs from Farsports last spring. They've been faultless, no probs with the transaction at all. Weight on my scales was 970g the pair without QRs. The braking is pretty good even on big Pyrénéenne descents, there is some kind of coating or treatment on the braking surface, forget the name, I assumed it would be a gimmick but I've no complaints. I'm 70kg.

Oh, I was wondering if a set would be at least as stiff and more durable - was thinking wider rims and maybe 38mm deep. Is that wrong (factually, not morally or aesthetically 😉 ) ?they aren't as stiff as a good alloy wheel
I've got 50mm carbonzone clinchers and am really happy with them so far.
Nice & stiff even with my >85kg though as mentioned already braking is not great. (the pads that came with them did not help)
Basalt, That's it. Like I say, might be a gimmick but power and modulation are good, and they don't squeal.
Supplied pads lasted about 200km. Better performance & durability from red Campag pads.
Has anybody buying these wheels from oversea's paid import duty taxes?
Anyone used Light-Bicycle?
