Our youngest (3.5) has a Specialized hotrock which has a coaster brake, she seems to get pedalling then slam the coaster brake on and lose all momentum.
Is there a way I can disconnect the rear coaster brake?
Not sure about this but there's probably a torque bar (not sure of correct term ) that goes from hub to a chainstay. If you disconnect that connection somehow I think you'll disable the coaster brake. Make sure you do it tidily so nothing can jam as she's riding
Disconnect the coaster brake?!? I lived for slamming on my coaster brake when going as fast as possible down my street just to see if I could leave a longer rubber patch on the road than the kid across from me.
Deprive a young rider of the coaster brake experience, and you might as well tell them that they will be never be allowed ice cream, or that Christmas will be cancelled this year.
And just think of all the extra trips to your LBS to look at the stock when you go to stock up on replacement rear tyres!
